According to court records cited by the outlet, some of the illegal immigrant defendants received lenient sentences for their crimes. For example, one individual convicted of raping a 14-year-old was initially sentenced to 25 years but had their sentence reduced to just 18 months. Another defendant arrested for multiple counts of child sex crimes was given five years of supervised probation.
The disparity in sentencing between illegal immigrant defendants and U.S. offenders has raised concerns among the public. The report highlighted that Black defendants in similar cases received prison sentences of four years or more, with some facing sentences of 12 years or more in prison.
