Former President Donald Trump’s newly installed leadership team at the Republican National Committee (RNC) has begun a major shakeup, pushing out dozens of officials in a move to merge parts of the RNC with the Trump 2024 presidential campaign.

The Trump campaign took operational control over the RNC on Monday, leading to the resignation of RNC staffers in the communications, data, and political departments, including senior staff members. This move came after Trump’s picks for RNC chair and co-chair, Michael Whatley and Lara Trump, were unanimously confirmed on Friday at the RNC’s spring gathering in Houston, Texas.

Whatley, who previously served as the RNC’s general counsel, succeeded Ronna McDaniel as chair of the committee. McDaniel, who had been appointed by Trump in 2016, stepped down following pressure from the former president for changes within the committee.

In addition to Whatley and Lara Trump, Trump also installed campaign adviser Chris LaCivita as RNC chief of staff. LaCivita, a seasoned Republican strategist, will continue to advise Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

The shakeup at the RNC comes as Trump continues to dominate the GOP primary contests, winning 14 out of 15 states on Super Tuesday. With his last rival, Nikki Haley, dropping out of the race, Trump is expected to officially clinch the Republican nomination in the coming days.
