New York Mets Legend Keith Hernandez Voices Displeasure with Fans’ Chant
New York Mets fans have been on a rollercoaster ride this season, going from a seemingly lost cause to now being in the playoff hunt in the National League. The atmosphere at Citi Field has been electric, with fans rallying around the team with various chants and signs.
However, not everyone is a fan of all the chants. Former Mets player and current broadcaster Keith Hernandez recently expressed his displeasure with fans using the chant “LFGM,” which adds an expletive to the standard “Let’s Go Mets!”
Hernandez made his feelings known during a Mets broadcast, stating, “As long as they, on the other one, don’t add on the ‘F.’ I don’t like the ‘F.’” He also revealed that fans have asked him to sign memorabilia with “LFGM,” to which he has refused, calling it “very, very grotesque.”
Despite Hernandez’s disapproval, the chant has become popular among fans, with players like Pete Alonso helping to popularize it in recent years. The Mets, currently 44-45, are just 2.5 games back of the third Wild Card spot in the NL, making the playoff push even more exciting for fans.
While Hernandez may not be a fan of the chant, Mets fans are likely to continue using “LFGM” as they cheer on their team towards a potential playoff berth.
