Residents in at least three states were left in a state of panic on Wednesday evening as they were unable to place emergency 911 calls due to widespread outages.
Local law enforcement agencies in South Dakota, Nevada, and Texas took to social media to inform residents about the issue, urging them to use alternative methods to reach emergency services.
In South Dakota, the entire statewide emergency calling system experienced an outage, leaving residents unable to reach 911 services. The Rapid City Police Department issued a statement informing the public about the situation.
Similarly, cities in Nevada, including Las Vegas, were also affected by the outage. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department advised residents to dial 911 on a mobile device, as landline calls were not working. However, by early Thursday morning, 911 phone service had been restored in the city.
In Texas, multiple cities such as Del Rio and Kilgore reported outages as well. The Del Rio Police Department attributed the issue to a major cellular carrier problem, while the Kilgore Police Department experienced intermittent outages and provided an alternative number for residents to report emergencies.
The outage left many residents feeling vulnerable and exposed, highlighting the importance of reliable emergency services. Thankfully, the situation was resolved in a timely manner, and residents were able to access the help they needed.
