A tragic plane crash in Brazil’s São Paulo state has left at least 21 people dead, making it the country’s worst aviation disaster since 2007. The twin-engine turboprop operated by airline Voepass crashed in the town of Vinhedo, killing all 62 passengers and crew on board.
Teams have been working tirelessly to recover bodies from the crash site, with two victims already identified. The cause of the crash is still unknown, but authorities have retrieved the flight recorders for investigation.
The plane, a 2010 ATR 72-500, was in good operating condition according to Brazil’s civil aviation agency. The four crew members on board were all licensed and qualified.
Among the victims were two trainee doctors from a local cancer hospital, adding to the heartbreak of the tragedy. Witnesses described the horrifying moment the plane went down, with some residents experiencing damage to their homes.
