Vice President Harris Leads Former President Trump in Key Battleground States, New Polls Show
New polls released this weekend by Siena College for the New York Times reveal that Vice President Kamala Harris is currently ahead of former President Donald Trump in three crucial battleground states. According to the surveys conducted from August 5-9, Harris leads Trump by four points among likely voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, with a margin of 50% to 46%.
The polls mark a significant shift in the presidential race following Harris replacing President Biden at the top of the Democratic Party’s national ticket last month. Trump had previously seen a boost in polling numbers after Biden’s lackluster debate performance in late June raised concerns about the president’s ability to serve another term.
Since Biden’s decision to step down from the race on July 21, Democrats have rallied around Harris, with a series of national and swing state polls indicating a tight race between her and Trump. In a multi-candidate field that includes other contenders like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, and Cornel West, Harris maintains a lead over Trump in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
The polls were conducted before and after Harris announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate on the Democratic ticket for the 2024 election. The duo has been campaigning together in the ‘blue wall’ states, which Democrats aim to reclaim after Trump’s narrow victory in 2016.
Despite the recent surge in polling and fundraising for Harris, Trump’s campaign remains confident that the momentum will not last. Campaign chief pollster Tony Fabrizio expressed skepticism about the current polling numbers, suggesting that the race is far from over.
As the 2024 campaign continues to unfold, the competition between Harris and Trump in these key battleground states is expected to intensify. Stay tuned for more updates on the election race.
