A tragic incident has unfolded in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, where a 14-year-old girl lost her life in a Russian strike that hit a playground. Local officials have reported that at least five other individuals were killed and dozens more injured in the devastating attacks, which also targeted a residential building in the city near the Russian border.
Images from the scene captured flames and thick black smoke billowing from the upper floors of the building as firefighters worked tirelessly to rescue those trapped inside. The heart-wrenching aftermath of the strikes left a community in mourning, with President Volodymyr Zelensky once again urging Ukraine’s international allies to support their efforts to prevent such senseless attacks.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has been a frequent target since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, with the latest strikes leaving at least 59 people wounded, 20 in serious condition, and some requiring amputations.
