A 12-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a stabbing in Texas that left a woman hospitalized in critical condition, officials said. The boy, whose identity has not been made public because of his age, has been charged with aggravated assault, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The incident occurred at a residence on April Valley Court in Harris County, where a 59-year-old woman was found with a stab wound shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday. She was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.
Authorities suspected that two boys, aged 12 and 7, were involved in the stabbing. Both brothers fled the scene but were later located by law enforcement.
The mother of the boys expressed remorse for the incident, stating, “I’m sorry to the family. I’m very sorry that my sons committed the incident. And I’m praying for your health, for your wellness.”
Sheriff Gonzalez confirmed that the 12-year-old was charged in the stabbing, while the seven-year-old was not considered culpable by law. Child Protective Services have been contacted in relation to the case.
The sheriff’s office believes that the boys returned to the home following a verbal altercation with the woman, which ultimately led to the stabbing. The incident is still under investigation.
Neighbors reported that the woman’s brother discovered her inside the home after she had been stabbed. The community is shocked by the tragic event and is awaiting further updates on the investigation.
